In the pinnacle of a lonely lighthouse on the picturesque Western coast, resides a pretty village damsel, Bali, alone and shunned by all the village folks, a prisoner in her own dwelling. She dare not set foot within their midst, nor court their society lest she is stoned and belaboured by the fury of the villagers. Her only crime is the people's ignorance.

Her only company is her aged father and a village kid called Pakoo who befriends her.

In this atmosphere charged with native superstition, enters a charming young man, Ashok, from the city of Bombay. He is accompanied by a vivacious young lady, Neela. Ashok is a fugitive from the law, charged with a crime he did not commit. In a weak moment under the persuasion and influence of Neela, he decides to run away and hide rather than face the consequences of a certain trial. Neela is prepared to follow him to the end of the world, for she is determined to get him at any cost.

Ashok and Neela find rooms at a hotel on the coast run by one Mr. Narielwala, an old admirer of Neela. He is a character so queer and original but with such a zest for living that merely seeing him in action is to be immensely amused! He begins afresh his attentions to Neela.

The tall swaying palms, with their shady fronds, the long silvery beach dotted here and there with drying nets, the placid country atmosphere, all these fail to comfort the troubled mind of Ashok until he sets his eyes on the unfortunate young resident of the lighthouse whose sad songs begin to haunt him. Their first meeting is as tragic as the love that soon develops between Ashok and Bali. Little by little, Ashok learns the story of Bali's life. The reason why the whole village hates her is that she is considered accursed. Merely to looks upon her is to invite a curse upon oneself! This is because through a series of unfortunate coincidences many people who had been close to her have died through strange accidents. That is why people avoid her like plague!

To Ashok, this is height of superstition! He sets out to conquer Bali's fears. He teaches her to be bold, to dare to face people and their dark, accusing eyes.. he teaches her to be a normal human being once again.. and in all her pitiful efforts, their mutual love is Bali's real strength.

Mr. Narielwala has only one passion and that is Neela. Neela has only one obsession and that is Ashok. As Ashok gradually drifts out of her reach, Neela flares up and for the first time, begins to show her true colours. 'There is no fury life a woman scorned'. The drama of our story heightens.. situations pile on intriguing situations taking our screenplay to a surprising climax which will only be revealed on the screen
